Bill to be heard to drop common core curriculum

Legislation will be heard next week that would keep from taking effect next year nationwide academic standards that were approved three years ago by lawmakers and then adopted by the state Board of Education, House Speaker T.W. Shannon said Thursday. House Bill 1719 would repeal the 2010 law requiring the common core curriculum from being implemented by local school districts.
