Tulsa voters Tuesday proved their stalwart support of 42,000 students by passing a much-needed $38 million safety and technology bond issue by 67.4 percent. That's the good news. The bad news is that only 13,632 voters eligible voters bothered to show up at the polls.

ACT to start giving tests digitally

Goodbye, No. 2 pencils. Hello, iPads. Starting as early as spring 2015, the ACT college admissions exam will go digital, reflecting students' tech savvy and the demand for quicker results. The tests will still have the familiar multiple-choice options for college hopefuls but they will also expand to include interactive portions, such as a simulated science lab for students to conduct experiments or space for students to explain concepts in their own words.

Hundreds of Miami-Dade County public school students now have a new tool for success. Superintendent Alberto Carvalho, at Nova Southeastern University in North Miami Beach, presented 450 students this week with iPads that were purchased with grant dollars from a program designed to help students learn English.

Will school computers be able to handle new testing technology?

Schools in about 25 states set to roll out new online standardized tests in the next two years can now find out whether the computers they have on hand will be able to handle the new technology. The state-led Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium released guidelines on Tuesday with specific requirements for devices.

OU Rolls Out New iPads to Future Teachers

Aspiring teachers in The University of Oklahoma Jeannine Rainbolt College of Education soon will have a new tool that is expected to help revolutionize the way they learn today and teach in the future. Beginning next month, OU will issue a new fourth-generation iPad with Retina display to 575 students enrolled in the college’s undergraduate teacher education program in spring 2013.

JRCoE iPad One University Digital Initiative
