Students from DeWitt Perry Middle School in Carrollton, Texas, won the overall title Saturday during Botball’s regional tournament held inside the Norman High School gym. Teams from Whittier Middle School finished the highest of any school from Norman, coming in third and fifth overall.
Brown said traffic safety is an issue at all district schools, not just Whittier, and throughout the country. He said Norman administrators and teachers evaluate vehicle safety procedures each year and try to keep parents informed through school newsletters, PTA meetings and other means of communication.
Shannon Abbott, a Norman middle school student, is one of 12 young people from across the state who recently returned from Oklahoma Science Adventure 2009, a week-long summer field program hosted by the Sam Noble Oklahoma Museum of Natural History.
The Whittier boys and girls Botball teams were the subjects of a documentary that will be aired 9 p.m. tonight on OETA as part of the State of Creativity series. A film premiere at the school Monday evening honored the students who captured top honors at the 10th annual Oklahoma Botball Educational Robotics Tournament Feb. 28 at the Science Museum of Oklahoma in Oklahoma City
Middle school mathematicians from all over the state met in Norman Saturday for the State MathCounts Competition. Ninety-two students and coaches from 23 qualifying teams competed for the top spot and Norman's Whittier Middle School proved to be the best.
