Kathleen Kennedy Manzo -- The SXSWedu conference, which precedes the larger interactive, film, and music parts of the program, has doubled its attendance since last year. For SXSWedu, March 4-7, more than 4,000 district and state education leaders, consultants, top education thinkers, and representatives of nonprofit organizations and corporate entities are gathering to hash out strategies and possible solutions to some of the vexing problems facing K-12.

Jill Berkowicz and Ann Myers -- Lincoln is one of the most researched leaders of all time. Most of us know something about him whether from our time in school, popular literature, research, journals, or the media. He was the leader whose principled stand ended slavery and prevented our nation from dividing in two. For some, their knowledge of Lincoln is limited to these few historical facts. That is until Steven Spielberg decided to bring Lincoln, artistically, to life on the screen.

If the International Olympic Committee awarded medals to teachers, a gold one would hang around the neck of elementary teacher Amber Shelton. Hard work and perseverance netted her a $5,000 Fund for Teachers grant to observe how Olympians overcome obstacles (physical and political) to go “faster, higher, stronger.” Next week, she journeys to London and meets with Olympic officials, athletes and trainers to replicate the environment for her PE students at Ranchwood Elementary in Yukon, OK.
