Richardson schools retool grammar instruction to meet new Texas education mandates

Like other school districts across Texas, Richardson is recalibrating the way it teaches grammar, responding to changed standards set by the State Board of Education – and to the way grammar is tested on the SAT and ACT.

The new test design will allow the state to give better feedback to school districts about how well they are teaching the various parts of writing. For the first time, it will clearly separate proofreading and grammar skills – from conceptual skills, such as idea development and word usage. -- Victoria Young, the state's director of reading, writing and social studies assessment
